" IT'S THE NEXT BEST THING TO BEING THERE "
Great
Walks -
Lake District (Colin Shelbourn)
This lovely book includes twenty-eight of the best walks in
the Lake District of Northern England, and therefore by definition,
the best in England. Ranging from short easy walks to tougher
higher level treks there should be something for everyone to
enjoy. Each walk is graded for difficulty, being described as
either "Easy, Moderate or More Strenuous".
The
author describes the walks in a warm and occasionally homerooms
way, the hand drawn maps which accompany each route are clear
and precise, and they are beautifully portrayed by the photographs
of David Ward.

Conclusion:
At £22.95, post paid, this is a very good offer. The combination
of the book and video gives a saving of over £8 on the
normal retail price of £17.99 and £12.99 respectively.
The book is beautifully printed on a heavy, quality cartridge
paper and would grace anybody's bookshelf. I'm too biased to
comment on the video, which is largely the work of myself and
Ann James. I will have to be judged by others, but I like it
and if you enjoy my own Photo-Walks on the Dales and Vales site
then you also should find the relaxing photography and background
music of the video to your taste.
Put the book and the video together and for me it's the next
best thing to being in the Lakes.
