Ing Hill is 300 metres up on the North Pennine fells to the east of Lakeland, situated in the lovely dale of Mallerstang, part of the Upper Eden Valley. There are fine views from the site. It is less than four miles from the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the entrance to Herriot country, with the Lakes only 30 miles or so. Within a short drive can be found attractive pubs, teashops and restaurants. The market town of Kirkby Stephen is some five miles, providing local shopping and a variety of antique and craft shops. Here you will also find the local Tourist Information Centre and be able to reach the station on the famous Settle-Carlisle Line. Horse riding, golf and fishing are all available nearby.

Originally compiled in the 1950s and early 1960s, the Wainwright walking guides
are perhaps the most distinctive and unusual such guides ever devised. The result
of painstaking and lengthy research by their namesake and author over a period
of thirteen years, the guides have retained their original format and design
