This part of the Lake District has a slower, quieter pace of life than in the more bustling centres of Windermere and Ambleside. Here, there are still more sheep than people, a real sense of tranquility, and hundreds of wonderful walks, either along the river banks at valley floors, the coastal beaches of the Irish Sea or high up on some of the most spectacular fells in the country. Helvellyn Cottage is an end of terrace old miners cottage situated above the village. The cottage sleeps four people in a double and twin room. It offers self-catering accommodation in a traditional cottage,. It has recently been fully refurbished to provide the mod cons that one would expect in the 21st century, including oil-fired central heating! The open plan lounge/dining room overlooks the fells, and offers a large wood-burning stove, colour TV, video/DVD player, CD player and a selection of books, maps and games to while away the evenings

Come and relax at Fellside holiday cottages, on the lower slopes of Catbells with stunning views of Derwentwater and the Borrowdale fells and valley. Set in 8 acres of private woodland gardens, home to the red squirrels. The cottages are 4 miles from Keswick and a 10 minute walk to Derwentwater. There is direct access straight onto the fells and lakeshore through a private gate in the garden. We also have cottages a short distance away in the Newlands Valley. Derwentwater lies to the south of Keswick, and Manesty is situated at the western side of the lake. The Borrowdale valley runs beside the lake and down to the Honister Pass which leads to Buttermere. It is a beautiful part of the Lake District.

Melbecks is situated at the foot of Skiddaw and close to the northern shore of Lake Bassenthwaite, just to the north of Keswick in the Lake District National Park in Cumbria. We have 5 self catering cottages providing accommodatio for up to 21 people. 'Randel', sleeps 2, is a former cow byre and provides cosy accommodation in a single open plan room. Conventionally laid-out, 'Dash', sleeps 4, looks out towards the play area and on to towards Skiddaw. 'Dodd', sleeps 4 is open to the roof eaves and has a galleried double bedroom. 'Skiddaw' sleeps 4 and looks out across Bassenthwaite Lake towards Binsey and Barf. 'Uldale', sleeping 7, has an upside-down layout making the most of its views towards Skiddaw. At Melbecks we look forward to welcoming you and your dog(s). The Lake District is a great place to bring your dog and we can provide advice on where you can walk your dog locally, on and off the lead.
